What is Speech Therapy?

May is Better Hearing and Speech month, so there is no better time to discuss what Speech Language Pathologists do everyday!

A speech language pathologist, or SLP, is a professional with a background in communication disorders. SLPs can treat all ages of the lifespan, but today we are going to focus on children.

Question: What is done during a typical pediatric speech therapy session?

Answer: Each session is individualized based on your child’s identified needs. This could include articulation therapy (working on producing specific speech sounds) or language based therapy (such as increasing vocabulary, understanding concepts, answering questions). Here at Quality Connections, we like to provide services that are child led. This means that we focus on your child’s strengths and interests in order to build strong rapport and increase motivation and therefore progress. We provide services in-home! The great thing about this is we can work directly with parents to assist in carryover skills to the home setting.
